London and Berlin, 17 June 2026. Flank, the agents-as-a-service company for enterprise legal teams, today announced the appointment of Alistair Maiden, founder of the legal engineering consultancy SYKE, to a senior executive role. The move doubles down on Flank's core proposition: outcomes, not tools.

Alistair Maiden joins Flank. Founder of SYKE joins as Flank doubles down on outcomes, not tools.

Maiden has spent a decade getting legal transformation done inside corporate legal teams. He founded the legal engineering consultancy SYKE in 2016 and built it into a global advisory business that worked alongside in-house teams on their own terms, in their own environments. Consilio acquired SYKE in 2023, and Maiden went on to serve as Global Advisory Lead, focused squarely on the gap between buying an AI tool and getting real value from it.

That gap is the problem Flank was built to close. In most legal departments, inexpensive, repeatable work still runs through the most expensive people in the building. An NDA waits until a senior lawyer has a free hour. A vendor agreement follows a template but still consumes review time. Until recently there was no other way to clear that work, so the department was built around the constraint. Flank removes the constraint. The work gets done.

Outcomes, delivered as a service

Flank's agents pick up requests by email, execute the work end to end, and route finished output to a supervision inbox for legal sign-off. Lawyers supervise. The agents do the execution. It is the same result Maiden spent his career delivering by hand at SYKE, now produced by agents and at scale, under the team's own playbooks and chosen level of oversight.

That is the line that connects the two. Most of the legal AI market sells tools that make lawyers faster at the work they already do. It rarely changes what the work costs, because making an expensive resource quicker at inexpensive work does not move the economics of the department. Maiden built one of the most respected names in the business by refusing that trade and delivering outcomes instead. Flank is the engine that delivers them by default.

"I am delighted to be joining Flank at a key point in its growth. I spent the last few years at Consilio, looking hard at how corporate legal teams can use AI to do more for less, and I took a close look at the market-leading legal AI tools. There are now countless ways to automate legal work. Few are ready for the enterprise. Flank's agents are reliable, straightforward to implement, and built to scale. Its capability and its vision stood out."

Alistair Maiden, who joins Flank in a senior executive role

"Alistair has spent a decade delivering on legal outcomes, first by building the technology and then by deploying it alongside the teams who depend on it. He knows the difference between a tool that demos well and a system an enterprise legal team will actually trust with its work. That is precisely the judgement we want as we scale the service. We are glad to have him."

About Flank

Flank deploys AI agents for enterprise in-house legal teams. Each agent has its own email address, works inside the tools a business already uses, picks up requests asynchronously, and executes them end to end, from drafting and third-party paper review to objection handling, triage, and answering questions. Finished work is routed to a supervision inbox so the legal team can review and approve before anything reaches the business. Teams choose what is supervised and their supervision model: their own lawyers, a Flank partner firm, or Flank's own supervision team.

The company began as Legal OS in 2018, founded in Berlin by Lili Breidenbach, Charlotte Kufus, and Jake Jones. In 2023 the founding team rebuilt the product around agentic AI and rebranded as Flank. Flank has raised $18.2M to date, including a $10M Series A in 2025 led by Insight Partners, with participation from Gradient Ventures, 10x Founders, and HV Capital. The company operates across the UK and Germany.

Flank is SOC 2 Type II certified, GDPR and CCPA compliant, and runs each customer in a dedicated, single-tenant environment within their own region, with zero-data-retention agreements in place with its model providers. Customer data is never used to train any model.
